Renji travels to the execution area, but quickly meets his captain, Byakuya Kuchiki. Renji uses his bankai, but his lack of experience stymies his efforts. Byakuya uses his own bankai, and defeats Renji. As Rukia travels to the execution area, captain Gin Ichimaru shatters her resolve by offering to help her, but then claims that his offer was insincere to begin with. Kenpachi is easily dealing with both Komamura and Tosen, forcing Tosen to use his bankai. Despite being unable to see Tosen, Kenpachi manages to locate and injure his opponent, but is stopped from killing him by Komamura. Komamura activates his own bankai and engages Kenpachi. Rukia finally arrives at the execution grounds.
