Hitsugaya and Ichimaru begin to fight, with Ichimaru eventually overpowering Hitsugaya. However, Hitsugaya turns the tables with his shikai, which freezes the surrounding area, including Ichimaru's arm. Ichimaru attempts to impale Hitsugaya with his shikai, and threatens to kill Hinamori unless Hitsugaya takes the attack. Ichimaru retreats as Rangiku Matsumoto arrives to block his sword. Meanwhile, Renji arrives at Ichigo's training spot, and reveals that Rukia's execution date has been moved to the next day.
