Urahara takes Hiyori to the Maggots Nest. He then asks Mayuri to join him. He refuses but eventually gives in. It is shown that Kaien doesn't want to be the vice-captain of the 13th devision under Ukitake, Kuchiki Byakuya was easily irritated as a child and Ichimaru Gin has completed the Shinigami Academy in one year and has taken a seat in the 5th squad. Aizen tests Gin by letting him fight against the 3rd Seat of the 5th division, but he is no match for Gin. Then, the pendulum swings nine years forward again.
