Ichigo begins fighting Amagai, whose bakkoutou's ability to suppress zanpakutou powers initially limits his strength. Even with his bankai and hollow mask, Ichigo initially struggles against Amagai's bankai abilities, but eventually manages to get through his defenses, badly wounding Amagai with a getsuga tenshou. Amagai, however, is willing to die to achieve his revenge, and calls upon his bakkoutou's power in order to kill Lurichiyo, Yamamoto and Ichigo.
