Rukia continues to struggle against Aaroniero, and her situation only worsens when he reveals Kaien's released zanpakuto. When he finally disarms her, Rukia's desperate final attack with a kido spell reveals a helpful fact: Aaroniero is afraid of the sunlight. Armed with this knowledge, she binds his movement and blows a hole in the wall, exposing him to the light outside. So exposed, Aaroniero's true form is revealed; that of a strange creature with two masks in a capsule for a head. He explains that he is the only gillian among the Espada; a position granted to him by his ability to devour other hollows and gain their power (this includes their physical bodies and memories). By eating the hollow that merged with Kaien, he gained Kaien's powers. To show Rukia just how outmatched she is, Aaroniero releases his zanpakuto, transforming his lower body into a giant, octopus-like form.
