Though Yui is able to resist the arrancar and keep Shota safe, the source body appears to devour her completely. However, it is little match for Rangiku and Hitsugaya, who arrive to defeat it. It manages to stall them by reminding them of Yui's trapped soul, allowing it to escape and create hundreds of copies to attack the town with while it hides behind a barrier. While the rest of the Soul Reapers fight off the infinitely respawning clones, Rangiku, Hitsugaya, and Shota track down the main arrancar through his clones, which link back to it through the song it sings. In order to break down its barrier, Hitsugaya uses his bankai, guided with some help from Yui. Revealed, the arrancar releases its zanpakuto, but is disabled by Hitsugaya and finally killed by Rangiku and Shota together, releasing every soul it devoured in the process. With the arrancar gone, Rangiku performs a soul burial on Shota to reunite him with his sister.
