There has been mysterious theiving going on in the 4th squad barracks ( tea leaves, kyoraku's sake, candy etc), but it all comes to a head when Hanatarou's 4 chickens (hanamaru, hanae, hanaemon, and hanakichi) are stolen from their coop. The thief's trail leads to the entrance of the sewers. Suspecting it to be Sword Fiend, Kyoraku and Ukitake decide to send Ikkaku, Houzokimaru, Nanao, and Hanatarou into the sewers to track down this mysterious thief. . After getting caught by a time-delayed booby trap, they are washed into a chamber, where Ikkaku is captured by the arms of a giant squid monster. Houzokimaru, Hanatarou, and Nanao are washed away, and find themselves in what looks like a home. . The owner of the home, comes home and is subsequently captured by Houzokimaru. Taking off his cloak, he looks vaguely like a robot with his face gone wrong. After a bit, Ikkaku gets thrown into the scene through a wall, and the squid monster is revealed to be a Sword Fiend. After Houxokimaru's attacks do nothing, and he is hit away, Nanao is captured. Hanatarou is panicking, when the robot defeats the Sword Fiend. It is revealed that the robot is Hanatarou's zanpakutou (Hisagomaru), and the mysterious thief, and that the chickens are doing well. Unfortunately, Hanatarou's party and Hisagomaru get separated on the way out of the sewers....
